An Arresting Adventure

Todd Wooten

Updated: Nov 8, 2023

Perched atop the dilapidated hospital.

Peering down like gargoyles.

Vehicles yawning down Main.

Handed down bicycles crumbled behind the building.

Reckless ride from Grandma's house.

Gravel road melds to four lanes.

Wilting, rusty ladder beckoning rebellion.

Queasy stomachs ascending.

Pushed by kindred peer pressure.

Patrol cars enter the weed ravaged lot.

Curses erupt. Pebbles scatter.

Trembling descent. Failure. Captured.

Punishment reflected in the golden badge.

Released by stuttered promises.

Rubber legs pedal back to Mema's house.
